It’s red and next to impossible to hide. Living with rosacea can be a real pain, no pun intended. Rosacea is a chronic skin malady that causes redness and swelling on a person’s face. Fortunately, you can find rosacea remedies with a search online.

Bad news, it can’t be cured. But rest assured, there are options! Yes, living with rosacea isn’t the greatest. But the following list of DIY natural rosacea remedies is! That’s right, we said it. Let’s go.

Avoid

Though there are no cures for rosacea as of this writing, there are a few known triggers. Things like alcohol and caffeine have been shown to worsen symptoms, so stay clear of those if possible. Also, avoid eating fried foods, sugar, processed foods, and dairy products as they’ve all been shown to worsen inflammation.

We know, all of the fun stuff makes your rosacea worse. But, should that be a surprise? We all know that a life of excess negatively impacts your overall quality of life. So why should your skin be any different?

Eat More

So, you’ve eliminated all of the bad food but your rosacea still burns on. There are a few healthy food remedies that may help ease your pain. Healthy fats, like coconut oil, have been shown to reduce inflammation and promote proper hormone production. Organic fruit and vegetables are a great source of antioxidants. Particularly, leafy greens are full of sun-damage-fighting carotenoids — healthy and fun to say.

In general, you’re looking for health foods billed as anti-inflammatory. Think turmeric, ginger, onions, and broccoli.

Aloe Vera

Is there anything that it can’t do? Aloe Vera is a truly incredible, natural substance. It soothes skin, helps heal wounds, heck, a few tablespoons of the goopy stuff can even help lower your blood sugar! Today though, we’re going to keep it skin deep.

Simply apply Aloe Vera to the rosacea-torn areas, let dry for roughly 15 minutes and rinse! You’ll notice Aloe’s distinct cooling sensation immediately. And it may bring down the redness too!

Licorice Extract

Black licorice sucks! But you know what doesn’t suck? Licorice extract. That’s because it’s full of skin-repairing anti-inflammatory properties! Licorice extract is … extracted, from licorice root and packaged in convenient little dropper bottles. It does wonders for your digestive system and has been shown to reduce swelling and ease the redness of rosacea. Don’t overdo it though. A few drops applied to the affected area should be more than enough!

Green Tea

Rosacea is caused by inflammation of facial skin. As such, this article contains a grocery list of natural anti-inflammatory substances. Like Green Tea! Now, we can’t speak for Healthversed as a whole, but Green Tea is always at the top of most of our writers’ lists. It makes for a simple rosacea treatment too!

First, make yourself a cup of green tea. Then, carefully place the piping hot tea in your fridge and let cool for roughly an hour. Once it’s cool, pour a bit over a face towel and apply it to the affected area. Ahhhh. Better.

Essential Oils

Like we’ve said earlier, rosacea is the inflammation of blood vessels of your facial skin. So, applying a few noteworthy essential oils that contain anti-inflammatory properties may help ease your symptoms. Which ones should you use?

Tea tree, lavender, eucalyptus, rose, and thyme essential oils have all been found to take the edge off of skin inflammation. Simple apply a half teaspoon no more than twice daily for the desired results. Feel free to mix and match oils to tailor make a treatment that works for you. The body is all about discovery!

Sunscreen

You should be wearing sunscreen every day regardless, especially if you suffer from rosacea. It’s long been understood that rosacea symptoms are aggravated by prolonged sun exposure. So, if you’re looking to mitigate the aggravating effects of sunlight, slap on that sunscreen every single day! Any over-the-counter sunscreen should help. But for best results, pick up a bottle with added moisturizers and a high SPF value.

Honey

Don’t get turned off by the stickiness. Honey is a fantastic DIY alternative to expensive creams and medications. Honey’s secret? When applied directly to the skin, honey helps your skin retain moisture. Especially important for those of us suffering from daily rosacea flare-ups. Simply massage a few droplets of this sugary treat in to the affected area and let sit for roughly 20 minutes or so. Rinse off with warm water and that’s it! No grinding, mixing, or scrubbing. Just try no to eat it all ok?

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a jack-of-all-trades in the DIY natural remedies world. It battles acid reflux, it promotes healthy blood sugar levels, it’s full of antioxidants, and it may even alleviate that pesky swelling and redness.

Simply mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with eight tablespoons of water and drink it up! Looking for something a little more palate friendly? You’re in luck! Apple cider vinegar doubles as an external rosacea treatment too. Just soak a rag in apple cider vinegar and apply it to the affected areas for roughly 10 minutes.

Cold Compress

This is not unlike our green tea solution a few pages ago, except this one relies on the reinvigorating properties of chamomile tea! Step one, make a strong pot of chamomile tea with two or three tea bags. Carefully transfer the steaming hot tea to a fridge-friendly container and let cool for an hour or so. Then, soak a rag with the rosacea busting liquid and apply to the affected areas! Delicious, relaxing and oh so soothing.

Oatmeal

Not just for breakfast anymore! Regular, run-of-the-mill oatmeal is a fantastic, DIY face mask option in its own right. Even better, it may help ease those nasty symptoms of rosacea too.

This one will take a food processor or a standard, countertop coffee grinder. Simply grind a half cup of oats and mix it with a quarter cup of water to create a paste. Gently apply the paste to your face, let sit for roughly 15-20 minutes then rinse away.

Flaxseed Oil

Rubbing your face with flaxseed oil every day can get messy. And, a little expensive. Thankfully, this Rosacea treatment is taken internally. You see, flaxseed oil is packed with protein, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. Which makes it the perfect, natural treatment for a variety of uncomfortable skin maladies like acne, wrinkles, and yes, rosacea.

Simply eat or drink a tablespoon of flaxseed oil two to three times a day! That’s it. No face mask, no face cloth, just a regular, ordinary tablespoon!
