Whether you are single or coupled up, doing things alone is essential for everyone. Partaking in activities alone is a good way to get to know yourself, but it’s also good for your soul. Start a search today to find 12 activities to do alone.

Beyond the satisfaction of spending time with yourself, some of these things are actually easier to do alone. In a group, everyone’s preferences tend to be considered and collaboration on said activity is a must. Luckily, this is time for just you!

12. Take A Trip

While it’s fun to take a trip with your besties or partner, it can be a daunting task when it comes to organizing group activities, going on excursions, and dining out. More often than not, most people have to compromise on something when travelling with others; so why not take a vacation on your own? Explore the things you’ve always wanted to see, go to the shops that intrigue you (and only you), and eat at the dining options you prefer. It’s a win-win situation.

11. Take A Class

Whether you’re talking dance, cake-decorating, quilting, or self-defense, taking a class on your own can be exciting and fun. Especially if you have always wanted to learn a new skill or participate in a specific group activity. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people and expand your network.

10. Go Out To Dinner

Unfortunately, dining alone still seems to have a negative stigma attached to it, when in reality it’s a great thing to do now and again. A table for one offers you the ability to connect with your thoughts and truly enjoy your meal. In fact, past research indicates that those who eat with others are influenced by their habits; people tend to mimic plate portions, food choices, and the speed of eating with those of their dinner companions.

9. Take A Hike

Getting outdoors and feeling the air and sunshine on your skin can rejuvenate and inspire. Taking a long walk outdoors or finding a wooded area near your neighborhood for a nice hike will allow you an opportunity to get lost in your own thoughts, all while soaking in the beauty of nature’s surroundings. Listen to the birds chirp, smell the wild flowers around you, and feel the wind swish between the leaves of the trees. Taking a walk or hike alone can help transform you. Plus, it’s a great way to get out and get active!

8. Get Active

Speaking of, working out is great for our brains and bodies! Still, going at it alone can provide a plethora of advantages. Firstly, you can go at your own pace and the idea of competition gets thrown out the window because it is simply you versus you. Another upside to getting active on your own is not having to work with anyone else’s schedule when it comes to planning a day or time: you simply head out to said fitness activity when it’s convenient for you.

7. Volunteering

While volunteering with friends can be a fun way to reconnect with the ones you love, volunteering alone offers a unique opportunity to prove that “one person can really change the world.” Choose a charity close to your heart and create a positive impact. Not only will you be making a difference, but you might also make some new friends along the way.

6. Watch A Movie

Whether you head out to the theaters or snuggle under a blanket and check one out at home, watching a movie alone offers the benefit of zero compromise around what flick you are going to watch. Plus, your popcorn, drink, and candy are all your own! #NoSharing

5. Spa Day

Who doesn’t love the idea of being pampered all day, without a care in the world? Get a massage done, indulge in a facial, and if there is time, get a mani/pedi, plus some skin care treatments. Get lost in your own thoughts, read a book, or magazine to help you escape the real world.

4. Start Up A New Hobby

Whether it’s painting, cooking, playing an instrument, knitting, gardening, or photography, everyone out there has a hobby they’ve always wanted to dive into, but never got around to it. The time is now: why wait for a friend to dive into something new? Hobbies are a great way to have alone time and learn a new skill.

3. Home Improvement Project

No one has the perfect house and there are areas in every home that either require renovating, re-organizing, or a de-cluttering solution. Pick something that irks you within your living space and take on a home improvement project … all on your own. It could be as extravagant as re-tiling your bathroom, to reorganizing your downstairs closet, or simply re-painting a piece of outdoor furniture that needs a new color to freshen it up.

2. Go Shopping

… But, only treat yourself! More often than not, we are shopping for someone else in mind and forget to pamper ourselves. Take a day out and head to all your favorite stores and only buy things for you! Shopping can be therapy to some, and for a good reason. Sometimes there is no better feeling than adding a few new items to your home, wardrobe, or games room.

1. Home Alone

Organizing a day when you’re home alone, without anyone around, to do absolutely nothing, is a rarity for many. Whether you live with roommates or are part of a family that shares a living space, being home alone, without friends or family to bother you is just what the doctor ordered and should be done now and again. Make it a PJ day and binge watch all your favs on Netflix, have a long and hot bath with a good book/magazine, or take a hack at that recipe you’ve been dying to try out, but haven’t had a chance to crack. A day without anyone around the house can help you re-focus, relax, and feel great.
