Balanced Living: Your Chakra Health

Chakras come from medieval Indian culture, and the Sanskrit word “Chakra” (or “wheel” in English) often describes the seven energy centers of the human body. Start a search today to tap into and understand your Chakra health.

According to the scholars of yore, the human body is a veritable atom bomb of psychic energy. When calibrated, the seven chakras can unleash the true potential of our mental and physical selves. But when your chakras are out of whack, look out!

The Root (Muladhara) Chakra

We begin with the root chakra. The root chakra, often referred to as the red chakra, is located at the base of the human spine. It symbolizes emotional and financial security, and it represents the human connection to the earth that gives us life.

A balanced root chakra is accompanied by feelings of peace, satisfaction, and accomplishment. We’re sure you know the feeling. You probably know what it feels like to have an overactive root chakra, too. An overactive root chakra brings with it feelings of anxiety and helplessness. Conversely, an underactive root chakra is often accompanied by constant day dreaming. A sort of, “head in the clouds” feeling.

Balancing the Root Chakra

In order to properly balance your root chakra, you’ll first need to figure out whether it’s overactive or underactive. If you’re looking to balance an overactive root chakra, try volunteering or do a random act of kindness to guide the overactive energy to other, more productive energy centers in your body.

However, if your root chakra is underactive, give it an energy boost by spending some time in nature. Go for a hike, walk the dog, or do some gardening!

The Sacral (Svadhistana) Chakra

Up next, the sacral chakra (say that 10 times fast). The sacral chakra’s home is just below the belly button. It’s orange in color and governs your creative energy and your general enjoyment of life. Trust us, you want this one to be balanced. Why? Because a balanced sacral chakra makes everything more fun and engaging!

An overactive sacral chakra is very dangerous because it can lead to addiction, obesity, and a seemingly incurable restlessness. On the other side of the spectrum, an underactive sacral chakra is accompanied by feelings of depression, a decreased sex drive, and a lack of passion.

Balancing the Sacral Chakra

Is your sacral chakra out of whack? Well you’ve come to the right place! If you’re looking to balance the self-destructive qualities of an overactive sacral chakra, practice mindfulness! Before you have a drink, before you eat another Cheeto, before you do anything, ask yourself “Is what I’m about to do healthy?” An overactive sacral chakra feeds on compulsiveness. So fight back!

Maybe your sacral chakra is underactive. In that case, to counteract the blahs try doing something fun! Go see a movie, get intimate, or go on a vacation.

The Solar Plexus (Manipura) Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is yellow and is responsible for the “gut feelings” that help you navigate the physical and emotional world. It’s yellow and is located, you guessed it, right around your solar plexus! A balanced solar plexus chakra is associated with feelings of decisiveness, wisdom, and personal power.

An overactive solar plexus chakra comes from meddling in the lives of others and can make you quick to anger. It can also cause digestive issues and imbalances within your internal organs. On the other hand, an underactive solar plexus chakra may make you feel timid, insecure, and indecisive.

Balancing the Solar Plexus Chakra

If you’re feeling indecisive or timid, then your third chakra may need to be energized! How do you energize your third chakra? Grab a pen and a piece of paper, and write down all of the things that you know you’re good at. Embrace your talent!

Currently battling an overactive solar plexus chakra? Balance it by practicing love and compassion through meditation, or through spreading love across your world. Send a thoughtful message to a loved one, treat your spouse to dinner, or tell a friend how much they truly mean to you!

The Heart (Anahata) Chakra

Your heart chakra is green and is located in the very center of your breastbone. This is your fourth chakra, and when it’s balanced, it fills you with feelings of love, kindness, empathy, and compassion for others.

Naturally, an unbalanced heart chakra presents a unique set of problems. When overactive, your heart chakra may cloud your judgement, causing you to make unhealthy decisions in search of love.

On the other side of the spectrum, overvaluing the feelings of others while neglecting your own is a common problem. An underactive heart chakra may harm your ability to make real, intimate connections with people.

Balancing the Heart Chakra

For those with a balanced heart chakra, the world is a boundless reservoir of love and compassion. Sound too good to be true? Not so fast! All it takes is a little balancing.

To balance an overactive heart chakra, focus some of that excess outward love inwards. Meditate on self love or enjoy a relaxing massage, and show yourself some love! If you believe that your heart chakra is underactive, energize it through self-love and self confidence. Energizing your heart chakra can be difficult, but trust us, it’s certainly worth it!

The Throat (Vishuddha) Chakra

Chakra number five is referred to as your throat chakra. You can guess where this one is located. The throat chakra is blue, and it’s responsible for clear and concise communication. When your throat chakra is balanced, speaking honestly and truthfully will fill you with ease and comfort.

Constantly interrupting people, talking over people, and a general feeling of “not being heard” typifies an individual with an overactive throat chakra. Those with an underactive throat chakra can be shy, guarded, and scared to speak their mind.

Balancing the Throat Chakra

Proper communication is essential to a full and meaningful life — so you’ll definitely want to take the time to balance this one out. Balancing out an overactive throat chakra takes just a little bit of mindfulness. Or, in the words of most grandmas, “Think before you speak!”

Looking to break through your current bout of shyness? Energize your fifth chakra by talking to yourself! It may feel uncomfortable, but communication is a skill that can improve with practice. So, practice!

The Third Eye (Anja) Chakra

The third eye chakra represents intuition and your ability to perceive the psychic energy around you. The third eye chakra is located between your eyebrows and is often associated with the vibrant color indigo. When balanced, you’ll experience harmony and a heightened intuition.

An overactive third eye chakra is uncommon, but is associated with an obsession of the paranormal and overwhelming feelings of restlessness. On the other hand, an underactive third eye chakra is very common. An underactive third eye may disconnect you from psychic experiences, and may lead to headaches and sinus complications.

Balancing the Third Eye Chakra

If your goal is to balance an overactive third eye chakra, you’ll need to reconnect with the physical world. Start a vegetable garden or go to the beach.

If you’re looking to energize an underactive third eye chakra, join the club! Most of our third eyes could use a little stimulating. Quiet, solitary meditation can tune up your third eye’s psychic perception, but it takes a lot of practice. So keep at it and don’t get discouraged!

The Crown (Sahaswara) Chakra

Last but certainly not least, the seventh and final chakra! The crown chakra rests above your head and represents the energy of human consciousness. It’s often represented as violet and white, and is also the most difficult chakra to balance. A balanced crown chakra represents nirvana, which is considered the ultimate accomplishment for Buddhists.

There’s no such thing as an overactive crown chakra and, if you’re reading this right now, it’s safe to say that you’re crown chakra is, in fact, underactive. That’s because a perfectly balanced crown chakra will release you from the bondage of human pain and suffering forever! Heavy stuff!

Balancing the Crown Chakra

This may sound like a bit of a cop out, but the only way to balance your crown chakra is by focusing on (and balancing) your other six chakras! Listen to all of your chakras through meditation, enjoy your life and, every day, take one step closer to a balanced crown chakra and complete nirvana.
