15 Ways to Feel More Confident in Your Day-To-Day Life

1. Stop comparing yourself to others

It’s easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others. Once you stop thinking that there’s someone who’s better at this or someone who knows more about that, you’ll feel better about yourself. Don’t worry so much about other people. There’s a saying that goes, “comparison is the thief of joy.” Let go of the notion that everything is a competition and you’ll be surprised how much more confident you feel.

2. Name 3 things you like about yourself each day

Start each and every day being grateful for who you are and what you have. How? Simply by telling yourself 3 things you love about yourself or that you’re good at. There’s no better confidence booster than pointing out what makes you so special. Pointing out your strengths doesn’t make you arrogant or cocky. Sometimes, we all just need a reminder of our own uniqueness.

3. Wear clothes you’re comfortable in

If you’re walking around in clothes you’re not comfortable in, trying to be someone that you’re not, you’ll never be confident in who you are. Don’t wear high heels just because you think you’re supposed to. Don’t feel obligated to wear a short skirt just because that’s what’s in style. Wear the clothes that you want to wear, the clothes that make you comfortable. Comfort is confidence.

4. Read a motivational quote each morning

Who doesn’t love a good motivational quote?! Whenever you’re getting down on yourself or just need an extra boost of confidence, look up some motivational quotes. It’s a great, simple way to turn your day around. If you want to prepare in advance, grab a mason jar and print out strips of paper with a motivational quote on each one. Fold the pieces of paper up and place them inside the jar. They’ll be there whenever you need some extra confidence.

5. Listen to some pump-up music

If confidence is something you’re lacking, there’s nothing better to get you in the zone than some good, old-fashioned pump-up music. That’s right … we’re talking “Eye of the Tiger” and the theme song from Rocky. Let your inhibitions go and do some dancing and jamming along or just let the music play while you get ready in the morning. Sometimes, the best way to gain confidence is just to let loose and have some fun.

6. Stretch it out … or do some yoga

Often, a lack of confidence can come from being stressed out or not feeling relaxed. Take some time each day to do some simple stretching or even some light yoga, if you have the time. You don’t have to spend hours exercising or stretching in order for it to have an impact on your mood. Just a few minutes each day really add up, and will have you feeling better and more confident in no time.

7. Do what makes YOU happy

Let’s be honest: it can be easier to give into what other people want than to stand up for yourself. It takes a lot of bravery to push forward, but it’s super important to do what makes you happy. If your friends all want to do one thing, but your heart tells you to do another, follow your heart. Do what you know is going to make you happy and don’t worry what other people think. This takes more courage than you’d think and it’ll help you realize the confidence you didn’t even know you had.

8. Stop hanging around people who bring you down

Negativity only brings about more negativity. If you’re spending time with people who add unnecessary negativity to your life, it’s time to walk away and end those toxic friendships. Hanging around with those people will only cause you to have a more negative outlook on things, and that’s no way to live your life. Freeing yourself from what drags you down will give you a big confidence boost.

9. Create a wish list

Take a break from the stress of the day-to-day and create a wish list for yourself. It can be anything you want — a bucket list, goals for the future, places you want to travel, or even things you hope to accomplish on a more short-term basis. Any of these will take your mind off the stresses in your life, and you’ll be more confident knowing you have set goals to accomplish. Just remember not to take this too seriously. You should have some fun with this … it’s not a homework assignment!

10. Stand and walk tall

We’ve all seen that person walking in the hallway, bent over, with their back hunched and eyes glued to the ground. To you, does that look like someone who has confidence? Probably not. A large part of appearing confident is walking and acting like you have confidence. Stand tall, walk with your back straight, and don’t slump in your chair. You’ll be surprised how much more confident you feel just by correcting your posture a little bit.

11. Do something you know you’re good at

Everyone has different things that they’re good at. Obviously, if you are an awful soccer player, playing soccer with your friends might deplete you of some confidence. If you need a quick confidence boost, go do something you’re good at. If you’re great at doing crossword puzzles, go ahead and do one. The satisfaction you feel when you’re done is unlike anything else. If you’re a talented singer, go try your hand at an open mic night. Nothing can beat the applause from the crowd. Knowing you’re good at what you’re doing can give you the confidence boost you need.

12. Take time for you — groom yourself

“Look better, feel better.” Truer words have never been spoken. It’s easy to get so caught up in the chaos of daily life that we forget to take time for ourselves. Spend a few extra minutes brushing your hair, putting on some mascara, or ironing the shirt you’ve been dying to wear but haven’t taken the time to iron. If you take some time and spend it on yourself — and your skin, hair, makeup, clothes, or whatever else you decide — you’re bound to feel more confident.

13. Take some quizzes to learn more about yourself

It can be hard to understand or interpret things about yourself. Don’t be afraid to take some quizzes to learn more about yourself. They don’t have to be serious or educational in any way. Opt for a fun one — you know, the ones like, “What movie character are you most like?” or “Find your spirit animal in just five questions.” This is a great way to take some time for yourself to relax, and it also helps you realize that we’re not all so different, after all.

14. Start each day off with a healthy breakfast

We’ve all heard the expression, “You are what you eat.” Start off your day with a healthy, wholesome breakfast — maybe some eggs, fruit, yogurt, or oatmeal. You don’t want to feel bloated and gross all day from a fatty, carb-filled breakfast, so choose wisely. You’ll be surprised how much better you feel. It’s something so simple that can make a huge difference in how you feel, so go ahead and give it a try.
