After a night of social drinking, you may be feeling the effects of a hangover. Mornings are hard enough, and waking up with a pounding headache certainly doesn’t help. Fortunately, you can learn about good hangover foods with a search online.

While you can take medicine to fight it or drink extra water to clear your head, what do you do about your grumbling stomach? There’s no quick fix for a hangover, but you can try these hangover-busting foods to feel a little better.

Coconut Water or Sports Drinks

Coconut water has 5 of the electrolytes found in human blood, so it can help restore your body to its pre-alcohol state. Sports drinks usually have 2 electrolytes so they do a similar job and will work if coconut water isn’t your style. Refilling on liquids will help you get your body rehydrated and start to flush out the toxins from alcohol.

Bananas

The high potassium in this fruit can help restore another electrolyte that your body will be lacking after binge drinking. Mix one into a smoothie or eat it plain for a healthy boost that will give you some sugar, energy, and nutrition.

Plain Crackers or Toast

If your stomach is swirling and you can’t settle it down, try eating a simple carb like toast or crackers. These are plain, bland, and can help raise your blood sugar levels without any funky flavors that will set off your stomach.

Soup

The salt contained in many soups will actually help your body hold onto liquids and retain water, which is just what you need after a night of drinking. Tomato soup and chicken noodle are the top choices due to the sodium content and potassium. Make it a full meal by adding the toast or crackers to your soup and you’ll be back up and running in no time!

Eggs

There is actually a good reason to go for that hangover brunch with all of your buddies. Eggs contain amino acids which can break down toxins in your stomach. They also have protein and carbs which will give you the energy you need to get up and start your day, and they are usually accompanied by toast, which is another helpful food on this list.

Ginger

Not only is it an antioxidant, but it’s a hangover helper too! Ginger is commonly used to fight nausea and can help settle your stomach when you wake up. Try a small cup of ginger tea or even a glass of flat ginger ale to get some liquid into your system and a helpful herb that will calm your digestive system.

Tomatoes

The reason why a Bloody Mary, tomato soup, or even tomato juice is so helpful for a hangover is because of the vitamins found in this fruit. The high vitamin C levels can combat toxins and help your body come back to life, so try to work some tomatoes into a soup or smoothie if you can’t handle them plain.

Honey

Honey is full of antioxidants and potassium to help cure your hangover and battle toxins. Similar to the effects of bananas and ginger, honey can be used to cure your symptoms and speed up your recovery. The sugars add some extra energy and you can spread honey over crackers or toast to double up on your hangover remedies.

Apples

These fruits are full of natural sugar, antioxidants, and vitamins to help your body get back into shape. Eating an apple on an empty stomach should help speed up your recovery and it isn’t too hard to get down, so slice one up and get a head start on detoxifying your system. And next time, don’t overdo it!
